Gibson L4ces Side

FOR SALE:
2001 Gibson L4 CES

$2750 shipped and insured within the continental U.S.

This is a 2001 Gibson L4 CES. Essentially, it's like an ES-175 (16" lower bout) but with a SOLID spruce top and an ebony fingerboard, along with the gold-plated L-5 style tailpiece.

This is GREAT guitar that I recently picked up. Sounds wonderful both unplugged and plugged-in. But, I recently acquired a Steve Andersen Electric Archie, and sadly, this L4 and a few other pieces will have to go, to help me pay for it.

This is a REALLY nice piece, it plays and sounds great, and is an example of what Gibson can do right when they put their minds to it. Beautiful sunburst; neck is almost identical to my '53 175. Not too full, not too thin... just the perfect archtop kind of neck. Frets are narrow and tall, with very little play on them.

The vintage sunburst finish is beautiful and really accentuates the hand-carved spruce top. The 2001 models were one of the last years to combine the curly maple sides and back with the spruce top. This combination is what is found on its big brother the L5 CES and greatly enhances the sound quality and beauty of the guitar over the current production L4s, which use a mahogany back and sides. The ebony fingerboard is exceptionally dark and even. The 24-3/4" scale and low action combine to produce a neck that plays like butter in all positions. Comes with the original factory black hardshell case with crushed velvet interior. The orange label is signed by Gibson luthier James Hutchins.

It's a beautiful piece in great condition, with a few minor belt niggles on the back, and a small (1/8" or so) indentation in the top that I didn't even notice when I got it... only reason I knew about it was that the seller had pointed it out to me... There's also the typical minor tarnish on the gold plating of the pickups.

Believe me, if I could afford to keep this one, I would. It's got it ALL going on! But the divorce would cost me even more. LOL! Email with any questions you may have to dorban@optonline.net , or call me at (609) 203-4211 (in NJ).
